Finding your vibe

Have you found your vibe? Are you looking for one?

I noticed how easy - and hard - it can be to find a vibe.

I'll set the scene.

Sunday morning, we were out of coffee at home. It forced us out of the house before church to go grab some caffeine before the service. After all, a morning cup of Joe on a Sunday is an absolute must.

We dropped by one of our many local spots, CommonWealth on Broadway. The parking lot was pretty full, and to my surprise a bunch of people (more than usual it seemed) were sitting outside among the relatively cool breeze (it is San Antonio and we're already in the triple digits by afternoon), the chickens in the coop and a handful of small children running about.

Inside, a smaller crowd filled the seats with their phones or newspapers in hand. The coffee and pastries were simply mesmerizing, an intoxicating combo of a vibrant morning vibe. It got me to thinking about how often we might slip into old routines or habits that keep us there, blinding us from the potential of new vibes that could give us a new perspective on life - whether that is recognizing our gratefulness for this and that, or perhaps intentionally slowing down, or at the very least just adopting a new way of doing things even if for a while.

The thought was further expanded by the fact that even our summer church service does this very thing: condenses the early and late service into one for the summer months. It's actually quite refreshing that this happens. It's an realization of a change in seasons, with a tangible way to feel this change. For me, it reminds me that we're going to switch over to maybe a slower pace for a while. No school to rush to, and the rigors of the fast-paced work week also seem to subside a bit.

With all of the hot temperatures we face during these months, it is quite nice to accept this change with open arms.

It might mean finding a new route to work, or encourage us to embrace slightly new routines even for a while.

Do it with intention.

So what are some options this summer as we seek to look for new habits and routines? I know it can actually take some thought. While we're busy still contemplating what meals we're putting on the table every night, there are some things that just don't go away. But even dinners can be amended to those that don't require much prep. Heavier salads, quick sandwiches, Instant Pot wonders are all ways we can reduce our stress during these summer evenings.

From a delicious pimento cheese, tomato AND BACON sandwich to an easy Caesar, there are some really great summer dinner ideas. These don't require the oven or stove much and you can get dinner on the table and cleaned up in no time. The most important thing is to not stress over it and don't create more heat in the house. Then, sit down with a cool drink for the rest of the night and take it easy.

Did you find your vibe?

Any thoughts on your new vibe? Will you change it up for the summer? What will get you out of your routine and into a more relaxed mode?

It doesn't even have to be drastic! What I find to be most helpful is to be very intentional about it. And put it on your calendar. That's what might help the most, if you can not only actually do it but put it on your calendar so you'll remember. Maybe it's not even a long commitment - even a half hour of something new will do wonders for your mental health.

Here's to summer!

I've always been of the mindset that a lot of times, a decision isn't even needed. You know the right direction to go, even if it takes some time to get there. Things will work themselves out how they're supposed to go.
